Obviously, our move to New Mexico has been in the forefront of our minds, so when we were at the new Amazon exhibit at the Miami Zoo, totally out of the blue Alexia exclaimed, (somewhat desperately) "How are we supposed to understand Spanish when we move to New Mexico?!" It made me smile because I really wonder if they have made the separation from Mexico to New Mexico in their minds.
On Sunday night, as a family, we were looking through all of the pamphlets and visitor information for Albuquerque that Brod brought back with him from his interview. In the first couple of pages it showed the formal pictures of the mayor and the other "state leaders".
Alexia: "Who are they?"
Me: "Who do you think they are?"
Alexia: "Maybe the prophets of New Mexico?"
It was so funny because they were in their suits and looked like they could have been in the Ensign.
Recently, whenever Alexia makes Audrey mad, she has been saying, "Fine! You can't be my best friend anymore!" Of course, by now, she knows that she's not allowed to say that. Well, the other day I was in the family room when Lex did something that made Audrey mad and I could tell she was ready to say that but when she saw me, she changed what she said, and I about died. She yelled, "Wex! (lex) You are just not my type!" Then she looked at me and mumbled, "you're still my best friend" but then of course had to add, "But you are just not my type!"
Yesterday, the girls were building a fort with all of their blankets and so Alexia was trying to move the couch. Pretty soon, she came running into the kitchen and said, "mommy, can you hurry and make me some green beans?" When I asked why she answered, "because I need my muscles to grow so I can move the couch!"
The last time we were in Utah, Alexia was begging me if we could stay longer. I answered by saying, "I'll see". She said, "please don't see!!" I guess she already knows what that means! :)
When we were at the beach a man rode by on his bike that had a tatoo covering his whole back. Audrey looked at me with the widest eyes and yelled, "that man colored all over heeself!"
Oh, the things they say!

Jess-these are so cute!
I love hearing the little things kids say-and to them it all totally makes sense!
So so cute!
You are so smart to remember these cute things and write them down...you'll always be grateful you did. Your girls are adorable!
Those were the cutest things! I love the little things they say that make you even more grateful to be a mom. My favorite is when they say things that you want to laugh but can't, so you smile to yourself(like when Audrey wanted to say that but couldn't) Your girls are so darling. Love you!
SO CUTE!! I just love the things kids say. Calvin says some pretty funny things. Sometimes it's hard not to laugh. I have a small tattoo on my back, and he always asks who colored on me. I say it was daddy, and it hurt so bad I never let him do it again :)
Jess those are so cute! I laughed so hard at every one of them! Whenever you start telling me a story of something that Audrey or Alexia said I get so excited because I know that it is going to be so funny! They are so darling Jess, and I'm so glad that you wrote these little stories down because they are going to LOVE hearing them one day! I love their little personalities! And of course Alexia would think of eating something to make her stronger instead of just boobing and asking you to move the couch :) I love you so much and hope you have the best time with mom and dad and Whins!
Don't you just love kids. Yours are adorable and I can tell by the things they say that they have great personalities as well. I hope your move goes all right for you. When does that happen anyway?
Hey Jess and Brod!

Mandie (Graves) Cook here. I found your blog through Briannie Summers. I am a fellow Arco-ite. My husband is from NM and we lived there for a couple of years before moving to HI. Just wanted to let you know that they have a great zoo in Alb. and an aquarium with a fabulous outdoor honey I shrunk the kids exibit. You can get a pretty good deal on a yearly pass and go whenever you want. Also, the balloon fiesta is a must do. Make sure you go on the special shapes night, when they light up all the balloons that are irregularly shaped. The pilots of the balloons, who are standing near the baskets have little cards with pictures of their balloon. If the kids go ask the pilots will give them cards and they can collect them. My girls love it. Thanks for the great blog. It is fun to read about your girls. We also have two sweet little girls that are close in age to yours and would live at the beach if they could. Anyway, good luck with your move.
Cute cute......good job writing them all down...those are things you'd never remember if you hadn't, and they are so fun to read over even years from now when you would have forgotten them! I want to start a weekly "isms" post...just to keep me on my toes grabbing the post it and making sure I remember all those cute things
So cute!! I love the things kids say. They are so innocent and honest.
My husband goes to Albuquerque all the time for work. I went there once to visit him when he was doing some training at the Air Force base. Take notes cause I have some good places to eat and visit...Gardunos (on Louisiana Blvd-Ask them to make you a seafood enchilada). Tucanos - A Brazilian Gaucho style restaurant (on Central in Downtown, kind of in a rough area but only really late at night. During the day and early evening it is very active with tourists and locals. Central is part of Route 66). Los Cuates (not the one on Menaul but the one downtown). Rudy's BBQ on Carlisle between I-40 and Menaul near Midtown (The best BBQ around - The brisket is AWESOME. It is very laid back with a picnic type of atmosphere, nothing fancy but very good). High Finance - This restaurant is located at the top of Sandia Peak - The absolute very north end of Tramway Blvd (keep going until you reach the stop sign). You have to take an aerial tram to get to the restaurant. (It takes forever to even get to the base of the mountain so go find it a day or two before so you don't mess up the timing). If you make reservations you get a discount to ride the tram (they don't call it High Finance for nothing, but this is a MUST do). The timing on this one is everything so here is the trick and DO NOT deviate. Take a couple of days to find out exactly when the sun is setting and it starts to get dark. You want to have plenty of light on the way up the mountain to take awesome scenic pictures of the area from the tram and also from up on top (Remember to bring your camera!!!). The sunsets are fantastic. The ride to the top takes about 15-20 minutes. Eat as it starts getting dark so it will be completely dark when you are done, the lights below that make up Albuquerque and the surrounding area are unreal, they seem to go on forever. Watch the weather, if it too windy or cloudy do not go up, so watch the weather channel. Also, trust me on this one, no matter what the temperature is, take a light jacket at the very least.
In October they have the International Hot Air Ballon Fiesta. It is at the fairgrounds, I think, and has that fair type of atmosphere. There are fun things to do and see with the kids. Another MUST DO is to go and watch the Balloon Glow. Late at night, when it is pitch black they fire up the balloons giving them the illusion of glowing. Some of the balloons are very creative in color and design. The family will love it. The traffic kind of stinks but it is not too bad. Also, although it is kind of early in the morning, it is worth it to go to a look out spot and watch the major hot air balloon lift off; Hundreds of hot air balloons taking off all at once.
There are lots of stories that say Albuquerque is one of the roughest/dangerous towns in the country, and while it does have its questionable areas there are a lot of good things there also. The Albuquerque temple is one of the most beautiful. It was built to fit into the area. Go look at the temple in late afternoon/sunset. It has a pinkish/purplish hue and looks awesome with the Sandia Peak Mountain behind it with the sun seeming to light it up like fire.
Santa Fe is not too far and the Carlsbad caverns are supposed to be unbelievable.
My husband helped me with all this information. He gets very enthusiastic when he gets to talk about all the places he travels. As he remember's more we will pass it along. Have fun in the "Land of Enchantment"!!!
Such cute little comments...i love the green bean one especially:) I can't wait to be a mom for moments like these! Love you!
love, Rebekah
And I should add to that super long comment you received about the best things in Albuquerque... Gordunos really is one of my favorite memories there. The food is SO good, and if you like fried ice cream, then you will have to order it! They have a Gordunos off of MOntgomery st. as well. We also have been to the tucanos there, but they also have one in Utah...But my biggest regret is not going to High Finance, you will have to go! I made reservations for HIgh Finance, and everything was ready and set to surprise Doug...and then the night of our reservation there was a huge thunder and Lightning storm so they closed down the Tram:( Anyways, just wanted to put my two cents in...oh and I went to the temple there as well, very pretty, and my 2nd cousin was the temple president there...Love you!
love, Rebekah
I love when moms record the sweet little things kiddos say, they will really enjoy reading those when they get older. so cute.
